In 1991, Calne entered the Royal Mail International Twin Town Awards to showcase the town’s remarkable commitment to international friendship, cultural exchange, and community spirit.

This application highlighted over two decades of twinning with Charlieu (France), Caln Township (USA), and Eningen (Germany), all driven by volunteers and sustained without public funding. Through concerts, school exchanges, civic visits, and shared celebrations, Calne built lasting relationships that spanned generations and continents.

The winner of the 1991 Royal Mail International Twin Town Awards was the Campden & District Twinning Association.

They were awarded the title of Best Twin Town for their outstanding contributions to international friendship and community-led twinning initiatives.
